Production timeline
The idea for something like Songs of War began to circulate around Black Plasma Studios in 2011, but they could not decide on a game to utilize until 2015.
David says work began in late 2015, when he first began making Minecraft animations. He streamed the creation of the world in WorldPainter on his personal channel in December of 2015. Building presumably began straight after this, and writing and skin/weapon design possibly also began in 2015.
A lot of the set design on the world was done in 2016 by the SoW build team, and was later showcased in a video on 9th October.
Progress on SoW continued alongside David’s other animations.
Production continued as normal and the script and world were mostly completed, so animation began.
David started recruiting other animators to help with some scenes in January, upon realising that animating all of it himself would take too long.
On 4th August, the first reveal trailer was released, showing Tygren Voltaris, a Song, The End, a dragon egg and redesigned undead as cryptic hints for the plot. This trailer was likely only made for the 3 million subscriber special.
On 16th November, the second trailer was released, showing the plot in much more detail and featuring dialogue from several characters.
On 23rd November, Episode 1 was officially released, with the Behind-the-Scenes video following soon after.
A mid-season break took place between Episodes 5 and 6, to transition from releasing episodes every 2 weeks to every week.
The final episode of Season 1 was released on March 28, followed by the full movie on April 11.
It is now officially canceled on June 14.
The unedited S2/S3 Script is still officially available, along with the unedited S1 Script.
Since then, an age dubbed «The Succession» began where many artists from the Songs of War community formed their own teams to animate where Black Plasma Studios left off. From this, 2 teams named Helios Animations and Knights of Ardonia formed, and are trying to produce season 2 in very high quality like the original, Helios also has released theirs as of June 24th, 2021.

„In the old days it was common for Ardoni of your age to wield Songs. It is our unique ability to harness their power. To deny their usage is to deny the very thing that makes us Ardoni.” — Thalleous Sendaris to Senn and Ria Sendaris ↑

Nothing is yet known about where the Songs came from, but it is written that Voltaris clan were the one who discovered the Prime Songs, but they have been used by the Ardoni for a very long time. The Prime Songs were abused by members of the Voltaris clan (who discovered them), resulting in the entire clan being banished from Ardonia. The four Prime Songs were given to the masters of the four remaining clans to keep them safe, as they were deemed too powerful to be used freely.
Achillean Nestoris later arrived into battle and proved his skill with the Songs, thus earning him the name «Tidesinger», as he turned the tides of the conflict towards his final battle with the Deathsinger, resulting in both of their supposed deaths and the Prime Songs being returned to the other four Ardoni clans, however not to the new masters. Thalleous in Episode 3 explains that after the Great War, the masters could not be given the Prime Songs, as their location would be too obvious to enemies, and the Prime Songs could be abused. So they were instead given to families in each clan. So far we only know of one family that received a Prime Song, and that is Osivian’s family of the Sendaris clan. The Song they were given was the Mobilium Prime Song. However, Thalleous in episode 3 took it from Osivian to bring it to a «safer place» which turns out to be with an old friend of Thalleous, Sulliman, who has an underground potion business, and who Senn doesn’t trust.
In Episode 5, Thalleous explains further that Songs produce adverse effects on his health, which shows that Songs do wield great power, but come with other consequences. He also explains that when an Ardoni dies, their Songs are left behind.
In Episode 6 it is seen that when an Ardoni dies, their Songs materialize next to their body once the Ardoni’s markings have gone dark.
In Episode 9, Zulius Kaltaris is shown using an Aggressium Song. He commented that he hopes the Ardoni still know how to use them, implying that Songs have not been widely used for some time, presumably after the Great War.
A user can only wield 4 Songs—one of each type, which means that an Ardoni cannot wield 5 Songs, or multiple Songs of a single type (unless they wield a Prime Song, which grants the user access to all Songs within that category). Songs can be compared to snowflakes in that they can be similar, but all individual Songs are unique, like a snowflake.
Types
Supporium, Protisium, Mobilium and Aggressium are the four known Song types. Protisium is protection and shields as seen in episode one, Mobilium is movement such as Thalleous’s teleportation song and Aggressium is offensive such as Tygren’s energy ball. Supporium possesses the powers that can not fit into any other category. For example, telekinesis has been shown.
Aggressium Songs
The Aggressium Songs are used for offensive purposes. Their color is red, and they are the most commonly used. In the opening, the Aggressium Prime Song is said to be the most powerful of the Prime Songs.
Name | Description | Known User(s) | Audio |
---|---|---|---|
Aggressium Prime | Prime Song of the Aggressium category. Allows the user to use any Aggresium Song. | Thalleous Sendaris, Ria Sendaris | |
Aggrobeam | A large, destructive red beam similar to a laser. | Achillean Nestoris | |
Aggroblast | A rapid, cone-shaped attack like a shotgun. | Ingressus Voltaris | |
Aggrostorm | A small red vortex surrounds the user, enabling them to deal close-range damage by coming into contact with the victim. This ability is a somewhat comparison to a tornado, yet the affects are not as powerful, and the pulling force is gradual. | Zinaida Voltaris | |
Aggrosphere | A ball of energy that travels at slow velocity and explodes on impact. | Tygren Voltaris, Senn Voltaris | |
Aggroquake | An explosion attack in proximity of the user. | Thalleous Sendaris | |
Aggroshock | A strike of red electricity. Attack may be contagious and can reflect off one victim to another. | Unknown Mendoris | |
Aggrovortex | A super fast-moving projectile of aggressium energy in the form of a vortex. | Zulius Kaltaris | |
Aggroshard | Shoots several small, fast-moving shards of energy. These shards have a physical presence similar to protisium shields. | Unknown Sendaris | |
Aggrodetonate | Shoots an explosive projectile which explodes on contact. | Val Mendoris |
Mobilium Songs
The Mobilium Songs are used for movement. Their color is yellow.
Name | Description | Known User(s) |
---|---|---|
Mobilium Prime | Prime Song of the Mobilium category. Allows the user to use any Mobilium Song. | Thalleous Sendaris, Deathsinger |
Mobiliflash | Allows the user to quickly dash forward in a direction of their choosing. It is very similar to teleporting, but cannot travel directly through physical objects. | Thalleous Sendaris, Tygren Voltaris, Senn Voltaris |
Mobiliburst | Similar to Mobiliflash, the Mobiliburst dashes the user forward, but releases a burst of energy at the end. The downside is that it has little range compared to Mobiliflash. | Unknown (Ingressus is seen to use it with the Prime Song) |
Mobilibounce | Many small Platforms that provide a boost to speed when jumped from. Can be used to attack from multiple directions in quick succession. | Achillean Nestoris |
Mobilileap | A large vertical jump into the air. | Unknown (Ingressus is seen to use it with the Prime Song) |

---|---|---|---|
Protisium Prime | Prime Song of the Protisium category, Allows the user to use any Protisium Song. | Thalleous Sendaris, Deathsinger, Ria Sendaris | |
Protesphere | A bubble that protects the user and moves with them. Can protect up to three people. | Senn Voltaris (Ingressus is seen to use it with the Prime Song) | |
Protebarrier | A large, static shield for protecting crowds. | Unknown Voltaris | |
Protepoint | A small movable shield that protects the user at a specific point. It is very strong and versatile, but it has a very small area that it can protect. | Unknown (Ingressus is seen to use it with the Prime Song) | |
Protearmor | Encases the user in a full body shield which stuns the attacker when hit. This has the drawbacks that the user is frozen in place while using it, and the shield breaks after a single blow. | Unknown (Ingressus is seen to use it with the Prime Song) | |
Proteclone | Creates a Protearmor clone that ejects you out of harm’s way instead of encasing you. This clone is weak and carries negligible stun ability. | Unknown (Ingressus is seen to use it with the Prime Song) | |
Proteheal | Heals the user or other chosen person | Achillean Nestoris |
Supporium Songs
The Supporium Songs possess powers that do not fit into the other three categories, though they all seem to involve some sort of physical manipulation. Some Songs of the Supporium category can be used to attack, move, or defend, but they seem to require certain situations in order to be effective or useful. Their color is green.
Name | Description | Known User(s) |
---|---|---|
Supporium Prime | Prime Song of the Supporium category, Allows the user to use any Supporium Song. | Thalleous Sendaris, Deathsinger |
Supporekesis | Grants the user telekinesis for a short time. This telekinesis can only be used on small objects such as Song projectiles. | Unknown Nestoris |
Supporospike | Manipulates earth/terrain by raising a spike of earthen materials from the ground. Can be used to launch an enemy into the air or possibly pierce/crush them. | Unknown (Ingressus is seen to use it with the Prime Song) |
Supporolift | Gives the user telekinesis over other people. | Unknown (Ingressus is seen to use it with the Prime Song) |
Supporoform | Can, to certain degree, form the object it is being used on. Galleous uses it when preparing a block of obsidian to be forged into obsidian armor or when correcting an imperfection on a sword. | Galleous Sendaris |

„They call me. Deathsinger, yet it was they who slaughtered my people and denied me the Prime Songs, which were rightfully mine!” — Ingressus Voltaris to Achillean Nestoris ↑
Ingressus Voltaris, also known as the Deathsinger, is one of the antagonists in Songs of War. He is the leader of the Voltaris Clan and the one who mainly caused the Great War. He was the leader after Dominus Voltaris. Despite his name, Ingressus didn’t wish to be evil but became so after he got corrupted by the power of the Prime Songs until he eventually reformed during the second great war. He is sometimes known as the strongest being to ever set foot in Ardonia. He passed away due to the wounds he received during his battle with Pythus and with his death, the pure Voltaris bloodline came to an end as all the other pure-blooded Voltaris got killed during the war. His wish of uniting the Voltaris with the other clans was fullfiled by Senn, the last surviving half-blooded Voltaris.
Contents
Ingressus was born in Voltaria. Ingressus’s home was attacked by Ardoni warriors, including Thalleous. Ingressus was the only survivor, who was lost in the waters. However, a young Achillean Nestoris discovered Ingressus, and Aegus Nestoris took him into their clan, believing this would allow all clans to unite once more, while giving him Nestoris colors. Ingressus was raised in the Nestoris clan, and became close to them, especially Achillean, soon accepting him as a brother. Achillean taught Ingressus to fish, and in return, Ingressus taught Achillean how to fight. This is partly why Achillean was the only one that was able to match Ingressus’s talent in both wars.
Participation in the Prime Song tournament
With the kingdoms of Ardonia losing a war against the Nether, the Ardoni were called upon to use the Prime Songs. The clans agreed and held a tournament to determine a champion who would be allowed to wield them. Upon hearing about the tournament, Achillean suggested Ingressus enter the tournament, believing it would allow the clans to accept the Voltaris. With his persistence and determination, Ingressus was able to fight his way up and eventually win the tournament. During part of the tournament in Season 1, Achillean can be seen watching the tournament. Upon being presented with the Prime Songs, Ingressus revealed his true identity to redeem his clan for what they had done so long ago. However, the masters refused to give him the songs, due in part to the Voltaris Clan’s misuse of their power long ago. The following night, as the clans debated their next course of action, Ingressus set out alone, killing the masters of Kaltaris, Sendaris, and Mendoris Clans, and took three of the four Prime Songs. Because of the massacre, he became known as the Deathsinger. Ingressus confronted Aegus for the last Prime Song, but came to his senses and realized what he had done. Achillean came to Aegus’ defense, and Ingressus withdrew. However, what he had done was unforgivable by the other Ardoni clans’ terms. The other Ardoni vowed to hunt down Ingressus and prevent him from obtaining the last Prime Song.
Participation in the Great War
The Voltaris Clan returned from exile to defend the Deathsinger, but was heavily outnumbered. He went to the Nether and met with King Chronos, the King of the Nether. They forged the most powerful alliance ever known, which led to the Great War. The alliance of Enderknights, Magnorites, Humans, Ardoni and the Felinas couldn’t stop them.
However, a young Ardoni, Achillean Nestoris, turned the tide of the conflict. He was able to unite and lead the armies to victory, earning the name of Tidesinger. This caused the Nether Army to retreat back to the Nether. With no allies, the remaining Voltaris retreated to Mount Velgrin.
Battle at the Peak
Ingressus fought the Tidesinger alone. With the usage of the Songs, Ingressus was able to throw Achillean off a cliff, however, Achillean somehow survived (it is not known how) and followed Ingressus through the portal thus arriving in present time. Realizing that the war was lost due to the Nether armies retreating, he used a portal to transport him 150 years into the future so that he could start a new war long after the threat of the Voltaris was forgotten. His passage through the portal forced him to drop all the Prime Songs, which he used to fake his death and cause Ardonia to believe he would never return, thereby dropping their guard and making them completely unprepared for his ultimate plan. Beforehand, he instructed Tygren to attack the other Ardoni and seize the Prime Songs just prior to his return.
When Ingressus walked through the portal, he joined Tygren, Lucidius and sevral other Voltaris in battling Zulius Kaltaris, Hadion Mendoris and several other Ardoni. Ingressus quickly killed Zulius and then started to walk to Hadion who said that he should have known that all of this was Ingressus’ plot. Ingressus agreed with this and killed him with the rest of the non-Voltaris Ardoni falling soon after. Ingressus then asked Lucidius how much time has it been and upon being answered by Lucidius, he angrily said that in 154 years they were still battling. To his dismay, he found out that his followers didn’t have any of the Prime Songs, although he was pleased to hear that there were no more Ender Knights. He then told the group that they had many things to do and that they had very little time.
Personality
He is also extremely feared among the Ardoni, as the expressions on the Ardonis’ faces were that of fear more than surprise after Ingressus passed through the portal, though in the eyes of the Voltaris, he is a hero. This did not seem to make him ambitious or self-centered, as he did not smile or show any sign of sadistic pleasure in them being afraid of him, instead, he kept a stoic face as he drew his weapons. He is also shown at the end of the duel between him and Achillean to feel extreme hatred and malice for all of Ardonia. It is later shown that he had great compassion for Achillean even to the point of brotherly love. This shows when he kills the Tidesinger, as he feels sad and surprised he did it.
Later on, it is revealed that he simply wants to redeem his clan, and show that the Voltaris are not all evil. However, he was corrupted by the power of the Prime Songs, causing him to kill the masters of the Kaltaris, Sendaris, and Mendoris clans and almost killing Aegus, had Achillean not interfered.
In short, Ingressus is a person who strongly believes in fairness, angry at the history of the Voltaris Clan and how they were abused by the other four Clans.
Powers and Abilities
The full extent of Ingressus’ abilities are unknown. However, he has been shown to be highly skilled in combat with great mastery of the songs. He was capable of releasing a close-range, explosive blast. He was also able to pull an Ardoni onto his sword using a Supporolift and surround himself with a force field strong enough to withstand an Ender Dragon’s breath. Ingressus is able to fight evenly with Achillean Nestoris, even managing to push him off a cliff. However, he was seemingly exhausted by this sudden outburst, as he used all four Song orders to achieve this within a short amount of time. His arsenal includes the Supporium Prime, and he uses three Songs from within that order via his Prime, Mobilium Prime, Protisium Prime of which he is shown to use two Songs from via the Prime, and also a short-range cannon-explosion Aggressium Song called the Aggroblast.
He has a fast reaction time, as evidenced when he parries and dodges all of the Tidesinger’s attacks while dashing and zooming around using Mobilibounce to jump from platforms extremely quickly. This is further enforced when he even used his Mobilium Prime to grab the Tidesinger out of mid-air and slam him into the ground.

„Never seen an Ardoni before?” — Lucidius to Abbigail
Lucidius Voltaris was a cautious Ardoni of the Voltaris clan. He was part of a group of Voltaris led by Zinaida who agreed with Jalkar to steal an Ender Dragon egg. Lucidius was along with the rest of the Voltaris killed by Pythus and his troops during the second great war.
Contents
Lucidius is a Voltaris who worked closely with Zinaida. He was sent with Zinaida to intercept Jalkar and Grim with the Dragon Egg.
Personality and Traits
Unlike Zinaida, Lucidius was shown to exercise more caution, and seemed to be a smarter warrior because of this. He also seemed to hold some grudge towards humanity, shown during his interaction with Abbigail.
Like Tygren, Lucidius’s views and ideals are considered extreme among more moderate Voltaris.
Lucidius is shown to be a durable warrior, able to take at least two kicks to the head before being incapacitated.
Appearances
Episode 1
Lucidius was among the Voltaris at Mt. Velgrin who watched the fight between Thalleous Sendaris and Tygren Voltaris from a higher part of the mountain.
Episode 6
Lucidius accompanied Zinaida and several other Voltaris to the Tabora Crags to collect the Ender Dragon egg from Jalkar, who had stolen it from Etherea for them.
After negotiations with Grim and Jalkar proved difficult, Zinaida suggested that they kill the mercenaries to forcibly seize the egg instead of providing compensation. Lucidius however warned Zinaida that it wasn’t a good idea, but Zinaida refused to listen, and a fight quickly broke out between the Voltaris and the two mercenaries.
During the fight, Lucidius attacked Jalkar but was swiftly defeated and knocked out by the mercenary, eventually ending up as the only surviving Voltaris from the fight. The two thieves fled with the egg and Zinaida’s Song.
Later, Abbigail (who was chasing the mercenaries) arrived and found a wounded Lucidius, the sole survivor of the Voltaris group, lying against the wall. He reluctantly provided her with information as to Jalkar and Grim’s whereabouts after she refused to kill him at his request. Abbigail quickly followed the thieves, leaving him to recover from his wounds.
Episode 10
Having regained his strength and returned to Mt. Velgrin, Lucidius took part in the battle that ensued when a small force of Ardoni warriors from the other clans arrived and attacked them.
As the Ardoni clans inflicted more and more casualties on the outnumbered Voltaris, the survivors (including Lucidius) began to fall back towards the portal. Lucidius, Tygren, and one other were the only surviving Voltaris on Mt. Velgrin by the time Ingressus Voltaris, the Deathsinger, emerged through the portal.
Episode 11
After the Deathsinger returned from the past, the battle resumed, now swinging in the Voltaris clan’s favor. After the remaining Voltaris won the battle with the Deathsinger’s help, Lucidius reported of the clan’s failures to reclaim the Prime Songs and prevent a battle from happening on Mt. Velgrin, much to the Deathsinger’s ire and his own shame. Later he picked up an Aggroshock Song from a Kaltaris who was slain by Tygren during the earlier battle.
Episode 23
Lucidius helped the Deathsinger by killing the Guardians restraining him. When the Deathsinger was confronted by the Elder Guardian, he killed it as well. He and the other Voltaris followed the Deathsinger into Ataraxia, which they soon took over and burned down.
Episode 28
In Northwind, Lucidius accompanied Ingressus and Deltheus to the Walls of Time. Angered that there was no mention of the Voltaris clan’s plight, Lucidius suggested that they force the Glacians to tear down the Walls and rewrite them, though the Deathsinger placated him by stating that more would be written on the Walls very soon.
At this time, the Deathsinger decided to move forward with their plans to betray Pythus and aid his brother Vulcannus against him. Lucidius questioned the timing, though the Voltaris leader told him that things were falling into place and that they had to be ready. When asked, both Lucidius and Deltheus agreed to join him.
Episode 29
Lucidius was among the Voltaris who followed the Deathsinger into the throne room of the Nether, joining Vulcannus in his attempt to remove Pythus from the throne. However, their plan failed when Pythus revealed he had known of the clan’s treachery all along, and sent the Angel of Death to Hailstone to massacre the entire clan. In the chaotic battle that followed, all of the Voltaris in the Nether, including Lucidius, were killed by Pythus’s loyalists.
